It contains the laws, regulations and other measures related to sanctions against the DPRK, such as national legislations, measures for national enforcement and international agreements. The data provides information on the current DPRK sanctions regimes, including a short description of imposed measure, date of adoption, classification and link to its original source.
The dataset was curated by Yerim Seo, ONN Research Consultant, and reviewed by independent external experts. The database is updated as of 1 July 2023.
To prohibit the operation of ships from the DPRK in the territorial waters of the ROK, including the Jeju Strait.
To prohibit entering into new commitments to provide the DPRK with subsidies, financial assistance, or soft loans. Except for those intended for humanitarian purposes, to promote denuclearization, or directly target the needs of the civilian population.

To prohibit the provision of bunkering services such as providing fuel or supplies or other maintenance to DPRK-flagged vessels, if there are reasonable grounds to believe that these vessels are carrying goods and items prohibited pursuant to paragraphs 1(а) and (б) of the Executive Order № 665 of 27.05.2007 and paragraphs 1(а) and (б) of this order. Except for the provision of such services necessary for humanitarian purposes or until such time as the cargo has been inspected and, if necessary, subject to confiscation. The measures of this subparagraph shall not affect legitimate economic activity.
To inspect vessels on the high seas by military ships of the Russian Federation with the consent of the flag State, if there are reasonable grounds to believe that the cargo contains goods and items prohibited pursuant to paragraphs 1(а) and (б) of the Executive Order № 665 of 27.05.2007 and paragraphs 1(а) and (б) of this order.
To prevent specialized training or education of DPRK citizens in disciplines that could assist the DPRK's proliferation-sensitive nuclear activities and its development of nuclear weapon delivery systems.
To prohibit the provision of financial support for trade with the DPRK, if such financial support could contribute to the DPRK’s nuclear-related or ballistic missile-related or other WMD-related programs or activities.
To designate 5 entities and 5 individuals for asset freeze who are related to DPRK's nuclear-related, ballistic missile-related and other weapons of mass destruction related programmes.
To prevent transfer of assets by restricting payment, the export and import payment, capital transaction and service transaction if activities could contribute to DPRK's nuclear-related, ballistic missile-related and other weapons of mass destruction related programmes.
To prohibit the export of all items to the DPRK, including intermediary trade transactions, from third countries to the DPRK. To prohibit landing of foreign sailors who have been sentenced for violation of trade and financial measures against the DPRK and the re-entry of foreigners residing in Japan who have committed such violations if such person purports to go to the DPRK.
