It contains the laws, regulations and other measures related to sanctions against the DPRK, such as national legislations, measures for national enforcement and international agreements. The data provides information on the current DPRK sanctions regimes, including a short description of imposed measure, date of adoption, classification and link to its original source.
The dataset was curated by Yerim Seo, ONN Research Consultant, and reviewed by independent external experts. The database is updated as of 1 July 2023.
To prohibit any transaction by a US person or within the US that evades, avoids, or violates sanctions.
To prohibit the importation into the US of any goods, services, or technology from the DPRK.
To prohibit any conspiracy formed to violate sanctions.
To freeze all property and interests in property of any person determined to have traded in luxury goods with the DPRK.
To freeze all property and interests in property of any person determined to have engaged in money laundering, the counterfeiting of goods or currency, bulk cash smuggling, narcotics trafficking, or other illicit economic activity that involves the DPRK government.
To freeze all property and interests in property of any person determined to have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for the prohibited activities or any person whose assets are blocked pursuant to this order.
To freeze all property and interests in property of any person determined to be owned or controlled by any person whose assets are blocked pursuant to this order.
To authorize the Secretary of the Treasury to determine that circumstances no longer warrant the blocking of asset of a person listed in the Annex to this order, and to take necessary action to give effect to that determination.
To freeze all property and interests in property of any person determined to have attempted to engage in the prohibited activities.
To prohibit the making of donations by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose assets are blocked pursuant to this order.
To prohibit the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose assets are blocked pursuant to this order. To prohibit the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services from any such person.

To inspect cargo if there are sufficient grounds to believe that a vessel in the internal water of Japan is carrying specified DPRK cargo. To inspect cargo if there are sufficient grounds to believe that a vessel in the territorial waters of Japan or on the high seas is carrying specified DPRK cargo. To inspect cargo if there are sufficient grounds to believe that a vessel or an aircraft at a port or an airport in Japan is carrying specified DPRK cargo.
To suspend inter-Korean trade, as well as all inbound and outbound shipments of goods and materials for processing on commission.
To prohibit new investment in the DPRK, in addition to any additional investment for ongoing projects. To prohibit the establishment of new businesses in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex as well as additional investment in the joint economic district. The current production activities in the complex will not be discouraged, but the number of South Korean personnel in the district will be reduced.
To prohibit visits by ROK nationals to the DPRK. Except for necessary visits to the Gaeseong Industrial Complex and the Mt. Geumgang district. To restrict contacts with DPRK people.
