Sanctions Database
Why this database?
The database was launched in July 2023. It contains the laws, regulations and other measures related to sanctions against the DPRK, such as national legislations, measures for national enforcement and international agreements. The data provides information on the current DPRK sanctions regimes, including a short description of imposed measure, date of adoption, classification and link to its original source.
The dataset was curated by Yerim Seo, ONN Research Consultant, and reviewed by independent external experts. The database is updated as of 1 July 2023.
To designate 1 individual who was involved in financing the DPRK's nuclear and missile development programmes through providing assistance in illicit cyber activities.
To designate 4 individuals who were involved in developing nuclear and missile development programmes as former or current senior officials, or contributed to evading sanctions by raising foreign currency and conducting illegal financial activities. To designate 6 entities which are a DPRK's key apparatus, dispatched and managed DPRK labours, and conducted illegal financial activities.
To prohibit exportation to the DPRK via third countries of items listed in a watch-list related to DPRK's satellite development, including optical bench components such as focal plane assemblies, equipment for attitude control such as star trackers, coarse sun sensor assemblies and magnetorquers, solar panels, aerials, and GPS devices.
To additionally designate 3 individuals for asset freeze that are involved in DPRK's nuclear-related, ballistic missile-related or other weapons of mass destruction-related programmes.
To designate 4 individuals who were involved in transporting or exporting prohibited items on behalf of DPRK government, or exporting oil to the DPRK. To designate 5 entities which were involved in evading maritime sanctions, trading DPRK coal, or exporting oil.
To designate 4 individuals who were engaged in cyberattacks or raising funds for DPRK's nuclear and missile programmes. To designate 7 entities which were involved in cyberattacks or responsible for training and dispatching hackers.
To additionally designate 8 individuals and 4 entities (including two vessels) for asset freeze.
To additionally designate 8 individuals for travel ban and asset freeze. To additionally designate 4 entities (including two vessels) for asset freeze.
To designate 8 individuals who were involved in financial transactions related to developing nuclear and missile programmes, or in ship-to-ship transfers of prohibited items. To designate 7 entities which contributed to developing nuclear and missile programme, and were involved in evading UNSC sanctions.
To additionally designate 3 entities and 1 individual for asset freeze that are involved in DPRK's nuclear-related, ballistic missile-related or other weapons of mass destruction-related programmes.
To additionally designate 5 entities for asset freeze that are involved in DPRK's nuclear-related, ballistic missile-related or other weapons of mass destruction-related programmes.
To designate 15 individuals who were involved in financing and bringing prohibited items in the DPRK for developing weapons of mass destruction and missiles. To designate 16 entities which contributed to developing nuclear and missile programme, and were involved in evading UNSC sanctions.
To additionally designate 8 individuals and 4 entities for asset freeze.
To additionally designate 8 individuals for travel ban and asset freeze. To additionally designate 4 entities for asset freeze.
To additionally designate 4 entities and 9 individuals for asset freeze that are involved in DPRK's nuclear-related, ballistic missile-related or other weapons of mass destruction-related programmes.
To require any person who intends to transfer strategic items or items that are suspected to or could be used in DPRK's weapons of mass destruction programmes to the DPRK to obtain permission from the Minister of Unification.
To extend the ban on exports of all goods to the DPRK, by imposing the requirement that exporters obtain export approval from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Goods exported for humanitarian and other purposes are exempt.
To extend the ban on imports of all goods from the DPRK, by imposing the requirement that importers obtain import approval from the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
To extend the ban on intermediary trade transactions, transactions related to the buying, selling, lending, or giving of goods involving movement between the DPRK and a third country. To extend the ban on payments of import bills for goods originating in or shipping from the DPRK without import approval.
To prohibit any person that is owned or controlled by a US financial institution and established or maintained outside the US from knowingly engaging in any transaction with the DPRK government or any designated person for the imposition of sanctions described in § 510.201(a)(3)(vii) through (ix) and under an applicable Executive order or an applicable UNSC resolution.
