The data provides information on the current DPRK sanctions regimes, including a short description of imposed measure, date of adoption, classification and link to its original source.
The dataset was curated by Yerim Seo, ONN Research Consultant, and reviewed by independent external experts. The database is updated as of 1 July 2023.
To prohibit procurement or entry into any contract for the procurement of any goods or services from any foreign person who are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after November 16, 1990, to have knowingly and materially contributed to the efforts of any foreign country, project, or entity to use, develop, produce, stockpile, or otherwise acquire chemical or biological weapons. Exemptions may be given if it is necessary to meet US operational military requirements or requirements under defense production agreements, sole source suppliers, spare parts, components, routine servicing and maintenance of products, and medical and humanitarian items.
To deny any credit or financial assistance by any department, agency, or instrumentality of the US government to foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To prohibit selling any defense articles or defense services or issuing any license for the export of items on the US Munitions List to foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To prohibit the exportation of any goods or technologies controlled for national security reasons to foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To prohibit or otherwise substantially restrict exports of goods, technology, and services, excluding agricultural commodities and products otherwise subject to control, to foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To restrict the importation of articles that are the growth, product, or manufacture of foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To terminate the authority of any air carrier that is controlled in fact by the government of foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To deny assistance to foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, other than assistance that is intended to benefit the people of that country directly and that is not channeled through governmental agencies or entities of that country.
To prohibit the export of any goods, technology, or services that the Secretary of Commerce determines would assist a foreign country in acquiring the capability to develop, produce, stockpile, deliver, or use weapons of mass destruction or their means of delivery.
To oppose any loan or financial or technical assistance by international financial institutions to foreign countries that are determined by the Secretary of State, on or after the effective date of this order or its predecessor, to have used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, made substantial preparations to use chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law, or developed, produced, stockpiled, or otherwise acquired chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law.
To require a resident of the ROK who intends to visit the DPRK or a resident of the DPRK who intends to visit the ROK to obtain approval for visit from the Minister of Unification. *Last update on January 30, 2009.
